Mark Lomax II

A few times a year I come across someone whom I must photograph. It’s how I show appreciation and an opportunity to get to know a [usually] new acquaintance.
Mark Lomax II is a drummer, an acclaimed composer and a highly sought after lecturer. I first came across Mark while attending a lecture of his. He wasn’t drumming, but he did relate a lot of his ideas with drumming analogies. I was charmed by his energy and reached out to photograph him.
Watching Mark Lomax drum was pure joy in motion and sound. He switched seamlessly from playing in flow state to drumming for people in the room (trying to make his teenage daughter laugh). He is rarely without a smile while drumming, and in life.
I used this shoot to play with shutter drag. The quick movements of a drummer were perfect for movement blur.
It was a joy, thank you Mark!
